Sunrise Timelapse at Herne Bay Pier
Eager to test out my new Sigma Sport 150-600mm L-mount lens on my Panasonic S5, I set my alarm for a 4am start. A quick coffee and straight into the car for a 5am arrival at Herne Bay.
With the help of the app PhotoPills, I planned my position for the sunrise to appear just behind the Helter Skelter of the pier.
After approximately 30 minutes of exposures, set to every 3 seconds, I then rendered the clip to 24 frames per second at 4K in camera. Below is a 1080p export from DaVinci Resolve.
One of my favourite features of the Panasonic S5 is that you can render a timelapse in camera and keep all the raw files separately.
After the render, I exported the video straight from camera to my iPhone over Wi-Fi, adapted the aspect ratio to 9:16 with the app LumaFusion, uploaded it as an Instagram reel, added some music, and it had 2000 views before I was even home! Modern technology eh?! Excellent!
For the purpose of this blog, I thought I would also export the original video to DaVinci Resolve and have a closer look on a large monitor. The above is the DaVinci render.
